To provide scholastic, vocational and spiritual training for the varied ministries of the church, particularly in India, with the following emphases:

  1. Bible-centered teaching that is evangelical in Theology.
  2. Holiness of thought and life, prayer, and growth in Christ reflected in the practices by the individuals in community life.
  3. The church's mission and witness in the contemporary world under the authority of the Scriptures.
  4. Preparing men and women to be leaders with passion for mission, competent to comprehend the human realities, and discernment.
  5. To ensure ministerial formation in the life of students with an awareness of opportunities and emerging challenges.

Courses Offered

Bachelor of Divinity (B.D)

The B.D. Degree course is designed to equip persons for essential functions and ministries of the Church in India/South Asia who could commend their faith with relevance in the context of a pluralistic world.

It aims at an integrative and interdisciplinary approach among the biblical, theological, historical, and religious fields with involvement in practical aspects of life and ministry in the regional, social, and cultural contexts of India/South Asia.

It also ensures adequate grounding in the discipline of linguistics for the study of texts and provides hermeneutical tools and skills for understanding and interpreting the context of ministry.

It is a three to four year programme

a) BD (3 Years)

A candidate who has completed a Bachelor’s or Post Graduate degree from a recognized University shall be admitted to the 1st year of 3 year BD degree program.

b) B.D. Upgrader (2 Years)

All B.Th. Students who passed in all the required subjects, includingnon-credit required compulsory papers, with 40% marks, shall be eligible to join the BD second year course, without a break.

Master of Theology (M.Th)

The M.Th Degree Course is designed to train candidates for teaching in theological college, to equip candidates with adequate academic tools and skills for critical and methodological reflection and creative participation in the diversified ministries of the church.

It aims to develop holistic knowledge and proficiency in candidates so that they may engage in independent and contextual research, which may lead to advanced study at the doctoral level.

It also ensures to promote contextual, contemporary and interdisciplinary perspectives that will help critique our understanding of theology and develop an integrative, plural, diverse and holistic approach to achieve knowledge and thinking and deepen our understanding of spirituality.

It is a 2 year programme

a) A person who has passed the BD examination of the Senate of Serampore College in Second Class with B Grade (57.5 to 62.4%) and obtained B+ Grade (62.5 to 67.4%) in the desired cluster.

b) If a candidate does not have required courses in a branch or grade, s/he needs to write qualifying papers before joining the M.Th program.

c) A Minimum ONE YEAR ministerial experience is required after B.D. for M.Th Programme (except women)

In addition to the above, candidates are expected to fulfill the following requirements for admission to various branches.

a. Old Testament:

The candidates should have passed at least TWO Hebrew Exegetical Papers at BD Level, securing a B+ grade (62.5% and above).

b. New Testament:

The candidates should have passed at least TWO Greek Exegetical Papers at BD Level, securing a B+ grade (62.5% and above).

c. Christian Theology

1. For Christian Theology, the candidate should have passed in either BB012 (Biblical Hebrew Advanced) or BBN02 (Greek Advanced) and complete any one exegetical paper.

2. Preference may be given for MTh admission to students who have written theses at BD/M.Div. level.

Doctor of Theology (D.Th)

The D.Th. programme is an endeavor to promote advanced theological education and the formation and equipment of leadership personnel for the ministry and mission of the church in the world and for the Theological education of the church as a whole. Its main objective is to promote critical and creative research in specialized fields of knowledge related to the life, heritage and mission of the church as well as contextual Christian faith, and to advance the frontiers of knowledge. It encourages students to take seriously the legitimate aspirations of all people for justice, freedom, dignity and a life worthy of humanity; cultural, ideological and religious plurality of our society; ecumenical dimension of all Christian thinking in relation to the unity of the Church, the integrity of creation, unity of faith and sensitivity to all dimensions of our life; and the study of Asian languages, cultures, patterns of thought and behavior.

It is a minimum of three years residential programme and the thesis can only be submitted after the completion of four years.

a) A person who has previously obtained the M.Th. degree of the Senate with a minimum of ‘B’ grade or person who in the opinion of the Committee for Research holds an equivalent qualification irrespective of age requirement.

Centre for Children Ministry (CCM)

CCM is a comprehensive training programme to help and encourage those who minister to the children and are really enthusiastic about the LORD’s call towards children ministry.

Medium: English
Time Duration: 6 months 
Time Period: June to November

Objectives of the Training:

a) How to evangelize with the children
b) Steps of teaching Bible lesson, memory verses and songs.
c) Puppets, object lessons, stories and music to train and inspire teachers and children ministers
d) Courses taught by credential instructors

Required Eligibility Criteria:
a) You must have minimum 10+2 qualification.
b) You must have the assurance of salvation based on the word of God.
c) You must have a burden and vision to reach children.
d) You must have a personal relationship with LORD Jesus.
e) You must be maturing Christian, demonstrating Christ like conduct in daily life.
