Master of Theology (M.Th)
The M.Th Degree Course is designed to train candidates for teaching in theological college, to equip candidates with adequate academic tools and skills for critical and methodological reflection and creative participation in the diversified ministries of the church.
It aims to develop holistic knowledge and proficiency in candidates so that they may engage in independent and contextual research, which may lead to advanced study at the doctoral level.
It also ensures to promote contextual, contemporary and interdisciplinary perspectives that will help critique our understanding of theology and develop an integrative, plural, diverse and holistic approach to achieve knowledge and thinking and deepen our understanding of spirituality.
It is a 2 year programme

a) A person who has passed the BD examination of the Senate of Serampore College in Second Class with B Grade (57.5 to 62.4%) and obtained B Grade (57.5 to 62.4%) in the desired cluster.
b) If a candidate does not have required courses in a branch or grade, s/he needs to write qualifying papers before joining the M.Th program.
c) A Minimum ONE YEAR ministerial experience is required after B.D. for M.Th Programme (except women)
In addition to the above, candidates are expected to fulfill the following requirements for admission to various branches.
a. Old Testament:
The candidates should have passed at least TWO Hebrew Exegetical Papers at BD Level, securing a Second Class (57.5% and above) average.
b. New Testament:
The candidates should have passed at least TWO Greek Exegetical Papers at BD Level, securing a Second Class (57.5% and above) average.
c. Christian Theology
1. For M.Th in Old Testament and New Testament, the candidate should have passed at least two exegetical papers in Biblical languages (i.e. Hebrew for OT and Greek for NT) with an average of B grade (i.e. 57.5%)
2. For M.Th in Christian Theology, the candidate needs to complete any one exegetical paper.
3. Only a pass mark is required in the case of classical language for M.Th. in Christian Theology. The language papers will not be calculated to arrive at branch average for M.Th. studies.
4. In Lieu of language requirement, the candidates seeking admission in M.Th. in Christian Theology may be permitted, if they fulfill the following requirements:
a) Passed in the Cultural Anthropology with a minimum of 40% and above.
b) Passed in Latin or Syriac in the examination conducted by the Senate.
5. Preference may be given for MTh admission to students who have written theses at BD/M.Div. level.
